Ripley Dental Practice offers specialist orthodontic treatment within both private and NHS schemes.

Orhtodontics is a specialisation within dentistry concerned with re-alignment of jaw and teeth to improve the function of both and the appearance of the face.

Orthodontic treatment can be carried out at any age but it is easiest when started during the active growth phase occurring before the age of 15 years.

We prefer to see patients at the earliest opportunity and, where possible, between 8 and 10 years of age at the time of the first consultation.

A full course of orthodontic treatment usually takes between 18 months and 2 years to complete and may involve one or a combination of methods. These may include the fitting of a brace which, when first fitted may feel a little strange but this is due mainly to unfamiliarity and should last only a few days.

Successful orthodontic treatment is a partnership between the orthodontic surgeon and the patient. In the case of children or young persons the parent or guardian is also involved in that partnership. It is vital that all concerned maintain the enthusiasm and determination to complete the full treatment from which the patient will, in the future, reap the benefits

Orthodontic treatment is carried out at the Ripley Dental Practice by Dr. Judith Wheble who is a registered specialist. Children will be assessed routinely for any corrective treatment requirements and will be referred to Dr. Wheble for an NHS consultation at the appropriate time. Simple tooth irregularities are no longer eligible for treatment under the NHS as a result of a change in national policy.

If you have been referred to the practice by your own dentist and you are concerned about the treatment, or you do not fully understand the treatment recommended for you, please do not hesitate to ask. We will be pleased to fully explain the treatment.
